Links & Backlinks

Link thoughts as you write and see everything that mentions them.

Wikilinks

Type [[ in the notes and pick a thought to link to it, or choose Create to make a new one. The closest name comes first, unless you picked another one last time you typed the same thing. Renaming a thought updates every link to it.

Tip: Select some text and press [ twice to turn it into a link.

Copy text with links

Copy notes that have links and paste them anywhere. In another thought, the links still work. In other apps, like Notes or email, each link pastes as the name of the thought.

Tip: Double-click a link while editing to select it.

Backlinks

A thought that other notes link to lists them under Backlinks, with the line around each mention. Sort the list with the control above it, or click the magnifier to search it.

Tip: Run Search Backlinks in the command bar to search the selected thought's backlinks.

Unlinked mentions

In the backlinks search, the unlinked mentions filter finds notes that name this thought without linking it. Click the check mark on one to turn it into a real link. A long list scrolls; drag the bar under it to make it taller.

Aliases

Give a thought other names, like nicknames, under its title while editing. Pick an alias in the [[ list and the link reads naturally but still opens the same thought.

Tip: A link that reads “diary” can open your “Daily Log”, for example.

Faster linking shortcuts

Settings → Wikilinks has two shortcuts, both off at first. One opens the link list when you type a period before a word. The other opens it when you start a word with a capital letter.

Tip: Press Escape to close the list and keep typing.
